Do Age Attain ceremony Necessary for a girl??

Age attending is a natural thing which happens in a particular time of age. I have no idea how all the communities & cultures deal with it. But in Asian countries they celebrate this as a function. Especially in Tamil culture with the name of “Sadangu”. I would call this as a single marriage. Only a groom will be missing in that ceremony.

The girl will be dressed up like a bride & the parents will invite all the relatives & known people. That is why I said it is almost like a single marriage. For a wedding you are taking a function is reasonable & acceptable. Because from that day two people going to have their own family life & going to become one. But for an age attending, do this kind of a ceremony needful? I see this as a crazy thing. I cannot imagine what is there in to publish and to celebrate. Why they want to show to the world a natural thing which happens in the body. If honestly telling this is like publishing to the whole world from that day the girl is going to have monthly circulation. After that it will make some special attention towards that girl specially among guys.

Within some communities this function has become a must. Even if they don’t have money to spend for such a thing there are people who lend money & take the ceremony.

From the day the girl become age attained, the girl will be restricted seeing males for few days. I have no idea why only for those days cannot see guys. These things have been derived from a tradition & still people practicing it. And also until some auspicious time they do not take the ceremony. Sometimes this can be after a month from the day the girl become age attained. There is a believe if auspicious time has not be seen & these traditions has not been practiced that is not good for the girl. This is funny & crazy.

Some people take this for prestige. Since the next door person taking or some other relatives taking they also start to celebrate. They think if they do not take it is not good for their image.

Any way these things cannot be changed. In this world always there will be some people who blindly believe all the traditions & practicing it.

  5. I to agree with that Niroshini..my niece attained age on May 2, 2013 and they live in the UK..but we had to send clothes and gold to her from India for the function...it is kind of embarrassing to call everyone and tell.

  6. I think this ceremony is outdated, unnecessary and an invasion of the child's privacy, so I will never let my relatives force it upon my daughter when she attains age. I will not bother to tell anyone about it, and if they keep harassing me about it, I may have to call the police

  7. Firstly, Niroshini are you a hindu? Change is good but when you think culture is out dated and it is unnecessary then dont celebrate any hindu festival. Secondly, why keeping your father's name back of your name? Just because you educated in Christian school that means you forget your culture. Remember your parents and their parent and so on believe on this culture or you are one of racist of Sri Lanka born!!!

  8. Nice one man. I have gone through this with two of my cousin sisters, and with both of them, there was a simple thing that was common. She was damn unhappy and shy that day. And for almost a week after that, she was not the girl I knew as my cousin. She was shy, she was getting attention that was for something that was STUPIDER than anything else. This is a crazy tradition and there is no reason for this tradition to continue!!

  9. I have a question. When a boy become "man", (voice cracks, mustache/hair grows etc.) there is no celebration. Not even informed. but when it comes to girls, relatives to be informed. Even if you don't have a function, it is acceptable based on lifestyle/economic conditions. But if you failed to inform, you are considered as equal to a criminal. Why?

  10. Simple, your mother would have supported you if you are correct. Because she went through the same 25 years ago. Infact all mothers would have stop this. Without a mothers permition or approval no such event will take place. They are the one do the whole ceremony. Fathers or men do nothing except the financial support. You will agree this when your daughter's puberty. Even that day your daughter will feel and say "I hate this mom".

  11. To celebrate a girl attaining age is not something to be shy about. Will any girl or parent be happy if a girl did not attain age. Such things do happen you know. Dont have to have big ceremonies and gold as gifts. A simple bath with to chill the body heat and a simple ceremony among the immediate family to celebrate brings happiness and recognition to the girl.

  12. in my opinion, the one who never got an opportunity of such function celebrated on her, may cry forever, kike above.. the one who have experienced such rich treatment and care given, will love to carry forward to their child...

Each moment of those days are lovable and memorable... one should ask only women in India..not the one in UK or US..
